Choosing a wedding cake
While the bride and her dress play the central roles in
the wedding overall, when it comes to the wedding breakfast table,
all eyes will be on the cake.
It's for this reason that most brides would like
a unique wedding cake that will be admired and remembered by every
guest - a cake that looks fabulous and tastes exquisite.
But choosing a wedding cake isn't just about design
and flavour; several other factors need to be taken into consideration
when deciding on the wedding cake design that best suits your needs.

Cost
A well-made and unique wedding cake design isn't cheap but there
are ways of keeping costs down. One way is to choose a sponge cake
rather than the traditional fruitcake, or perhaps have one sponge
cake tier and the other fruitcake? Not only will you be cutting
costs, you'll also be able to please guests whose taste palettes
don't extend to rich fruitcake. Chocolate cake is also an alternative.
Also consider the importance of a unique wedding
cake. A good wedding cake supplier will be able to customise an
otherwise standard wedding cake design to match your theme colours,
thus making it unique to you without the added cost of designing
a cake from scratch.
Size
How many guests will be attending the reception?
If the wedding's small, a two tier cake at 10"
and 8" will give up to 30 servings, while either a three-tier
wedding cake at 16", 12" and 8" or four-tiers at
14", 10", 8" and 6" will serve up to 100 for
a larger wedding. However, if you're inviting up to 500 guests,
you may need five or six tiers. Your wedding cake supplier will
be able to advise you on this.
Allergies
Do any guests have a serious allergy that would leave them unable
to enjoy their slice of the wedding cake? Gluten intolerance and
nut allergies are the most common and can easily be worked around
by asking your wedding cake supplier to make one gluten or nut free
tier.
As a last word, please remember that your wedding
cake should be chosen and ordered at least six months before the
date of wedding as the cake itself will need time to mature and
elaborate decoration takes time to be properly executed. And do
remember to order the cake boxes!
